Far Left:
Rockaway Beach boardwalk photo studio, c. 1894-96. Moll Coogan, daughter of James and Jane, had been teaching and then serving as school principal near Lincoln, Illinois. She visited her New York City relatives during her summer holidays. In 1896, she married William Edwards at the Harlem home of one of her uncles. Years later, she wrote about the expeditions she took during visits with her aunts and uncles, and the uncle most familiar with travel in and around Manhattan Island was surely Mathew (see his 1878 letter).
